Are you Internship Ready?
On my new journey to internship I hope to show my skills in tech, customer service, and leadership. I want to be able to show them that I am as fluent on a computer like I am in speaking English. I hope to be working with motivated individuals who are eager to teach and well as take what i have to offer. One question I ask myself all the time is if I'm ready to step into this field of work 100% confident. I answer my own question by letting myself know that i have invested 5 months in preparation for this journey. I will work well with a manager who wants to see me move up in life. A manager who is funny and also gets work done and watches out for those under him. While at my internship I want to gain the skills which i can apply everywhere in life and in my career. I also want to leave a great impress for my name and Year Up. I want to blend in as one of them and preform like a full-time employee. I plan on having my time filled with something to do no matter what it is.

Loud and Proud
Over winter break, even over all the craziness that was around. I was able to get a new pioneer deck system and kenwood speakers for my car. I needed a new deck because the one I had before didn't have a AUX port so I can plug in my iPod. My cousin and I got together and he helped me install the desk which looks great on my dash. My car is 21 years old so my speakers aren't the best anymore. He told me about a place where I can get great speakers for a good deal. It wasn't in my plan to work on my cars interior till later on but the offer of a great deal came to me and I invested in new speakers. Now my cars sound is perfect compared to what I had before, And I saved alot in installation thanks to my cousin.
BBQ and My Dad
My dad is a big BBQ fan and he also loves the outdoors. One thing my dad is known for is putting the two together. We live by the ocean and there's a park called coyote point. Coyote point is a huge park right by the ocean and has a nice family area. On most events, my father likes to get everyone together to get a Fire put going and a nice match of volleyball. Nothing can beat the man chicken and lamb in soy-sauce.

What my family and I do
Not all Fijians calibrate x-mas but they do take advantage of the holiday season it self. My family and I get together on many holiday occasions to not take part in the theme or culture of the holiday, but just to hangout and do our thing. During x mas time we do give presents and a few of us set up a tree.one thing is for sure, we all will see each other. We all cook something and meet at my older uncles house or meet at the store my parents own to spend a couple hours together. Im sure this x mas we will get together and celebrate x mas in our style and fun.

Good & Bad
One of the most enjoyable jobs I had was my first job. I was a Fine dining Waiter at a Senior independent care home called Peninsula Regent. I worked the floor as a waiter or bus boy, but mostly in the back as a runner (person to carries the big entrĂ©e trays out.) What made this job enjoyable was the residents and the teen employees. It was fun to work with someone young. Even though i was one of the youngest there at the time, i still got along with everyone. The residents are all sweet, one of the biggest reasons for me to go back everyday was for them. In my three years at the regent, I gained alot of skills like patience. One of the big ones I’ve learned is to stay away from drama. With teens one of the biggest things that go everywhere with them is drama. I also gained great soft speaking skills and short conversation holders. somethings that I learned is that some times it can be a competition and a race for power. Not on the floor but in management spots. One job I really don’t like doing is working at my parents store. We own a small international grocery business in San Mateo. We also supply meat and frozen products. The worst thing about it is that at the end of the night I have to clean the bandsaw that my dad uses to cut meat for the customers. The machine starts to smell and it takes forever to clean. Even though I didn’t like cleaning the machine, I gained great customer service skills and worked on strong speaking. All these skills will help me in my future because it all deals with interactions. We will be speaking alot and meeting new people everyday, its good to gain any skill any where.

Movement
Movement-What’s happening right now. Almost every where you go there is a talk or protest about movement. Diego Rivera caught a great connection of this in his Frozen Assets Mural. Relating the mural to what is happening right now with the Occupy Movement. The mural shows how from way back then till now in 2011 the “99%” are still struggling to have it a little easier. The murals middle section shows a large group of people sleeping and being watched by a body guard. That part reminds me of the protest in front of the federal reverse bank. There are about 30+ protesters in the front camping and a couple guards standing, watching, Trying to keep order. During the depression (when the mural was made) the top city part of the mural still shows growth with the construction, and large buildings. The Last section shows a volt and a women inside checking what her wealth is. Middle part shows the poor sleeping in a shelter. Right now in 2011 there is a war going on, “We can fund a war but cant feed the poor”-Unknown. Part of the Occupy Movement is how the Government doesn’t support the middle class. People are losing there homes and unemployment rites are increasing. We are in a war and we aren’t even thinking what our country is going towards. The two of them compare well, its like Rivera captured both events in one thing.

War Dance
It is true that we all get inspired; it’s something that happens to us sooner or later. I didn’t find something that inspired me to the fullest till I turned 16 years old. On the islands, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand we all do something we call the Warrior War Dance. Many call it the Haka, but each culture has its own name and style of execution of it. Warriors back in the days used to do it before a war or cry for help, now it is used mostly in the beginning of any rugby match against the opponent you are about to face. The Haka is done in a group and the point of it is to remind the warrior the reason he is fighting and to pump them up to preform there best. I knew the Fijians do a Cibi (our form of the Haka) but I never truly heard about the New Zealand one to it. The Mouri are the ones that came up with this idea, and the New Zealand rugby team is well known for their Haka. I saw it on TV ones and it got me so pumped up that I went online searching about it. I learned the meaning and why they do it. I am fascinated by my island background and the Haka is a part of every islander. What got to me about the New Zealand war dance was there style, they slapped, threatened, punched and everything. It seem so great and empowering that I did it before every football game. The Haka has been around for generations now, and it will live on as longs as the tribal culture lives. I have seen boys young and old men do it when the time comes for it to done. Here in California there is a large island community, all the islanders I have met have done the Haka or know about it and that makes me proud because even those not even born on the islands still know there roots.
